Many of us will have considered a piece of fine art at some point in our lives, and thought ‘I could have done that’. If that idea has been rattling around in the back of your mind for years, then now is the time to put your thoughts into action, and sign up for an oil painting course.
Getting Started
Before you embark on an oil painting career, even out of curiosity, you’ll need to spend a little bit of time and money, getting all of the necessary equipment in place.
This doesn’t just mean buying an easel, the odd canvas and a few brushes, (although of course, these things will help), but also finding a place in your house, or somewhere else that gives you space and focus required to paint well.
If you’re going to be painting still life or portraits, remember that you’ll have to leave a little area to set up your subjects, as well as your easel and other equipment.
Getting Into A Class
Once you’re sure you want to go ahead, it’ll be time to find a painting class. While there is no shortage of painting courses across the UK, it doesn’t always make sense to choose the one that is closest to you.
Instead, you should take a little time to research the artist who will be teaching the class, and make sure that their style and expectations are right for you. If you’re a complete beginner, there’s no point in choosing an advanced level, just because it’s a little closer to your home.
Getting this choice right is essential to maintaining your motivation throughout the course.
