The secret Santa game has been an office tradition for many years. Still, it is now also familiar with friends and family.
However, it is actually not as easy as it might seem, so is it on your bucket list? At its most basic, it simply means that everybody’s name is added to the draw and then selected at random.
Once you have received your name, you need to buy that person a suitable gift and then wrap it and label it.

When playing secret Santa, there need to be some ground rules in place. One of the most important is whether the gift should be funny or something the recipient would genuinely appreciate.
In a large office setting, you may select the name of a person you don’t know very well. Therefore it can be difficult to choose something appropriate.
If it is agreed that the gift can be humorous, then the task is much easier.
Setting a Price Guide
To avoid awkward moments, it is recommended that a price guide be set. It could avoid embarrassing situations where one person receives a gift worth only a couple of pounds.
Still, they have already spent a lot on an expensive present for somebody else. This also helps with what is undoubtedly a costly time of year anyway.
A maximum price limit could be set at a relatively low point to ensure everybody can afford to join in the fun.

Providing you know whether the gift should be funny or serious, and having a budget to stick to, makes it fair for everyone involved. Try asking someone else to write the gift label to make it even more difficult to guess who bought the present!
