Are you looking to give back whilst enjoying time outside? Countryside volunteering could be for you.

Many of us live very stationary lives. If you want to make a difference and get moving, there are plenty of opportunities across the UK to get involved with conservation projects.

There are many other possibilities, including litter picking, tree planting or helping with walking trail maintenance. These are open to all ages and experience levels.

“Whether you’re a nature lover or just looking to try something new, you’ll be warmly welcomed.”

Countryside volunteering can open many doors to meet like-minded people. It also offers the chance to learn new skills and help the environment.

The possibilities of volunteering

Maybe you could help with clearing invasive plants. Or, you could build a habitat for local wildlife. Others enjoy hedge-laying or wildflower sowing.

Events vary in length. Some run for a few hours. Others might span a day, or even several days (for a big project). Many let you sign up as a group or family.

You are typically given the tools you need. However, it’s a good idea to bring your own sturdy shoes, a packed lunch, and rain-proof clothes (that you don’t mind getting dirty).

This could be a wonderful chance to explore new locations, such as nature reserves, parks or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs).

Volunteering is also a powerful confidence booster, providing a sense of purpose and helping to improve your wellbeing.

Why not search for an event near you and give it a go? You’ll come away with muddy boots, new friends, and a good feeling that lasts long after the day is done.
