Enjoying a delicious glass of wine is undoubtedly one of the most popular ways to relax, particularly after a gruelling day at work.
Perhaps you may have wondered how easy it would be to make your own, and it’s even included on your bucket list? There are two methods which spring to mind; a kit which can be purchased including all the necessary items, or starting from scratch using any available fruit.
Wine Kits
For absolute beginners, this is a perfect choice, as everything will be in the kit, for a surprisingly affordable price. There are plenty of online stores stocking kits that make up to five gallons or more, enough to keep friends and family happy if you choose to share!
Whether your preference is Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay or Shiraz, using a kit only requires water; all the other necessities are included.
Do It Yourself
For those who prefer to challenge themselves by using your own home-grown or hand-picked fruit, then this option may be preferred, but could be more expensive. You will need to purchase a bucket, a fermenter, a siphon, a thermometer, a hydrometer, sterilisers and a mixing spoon.
Some of these wine-making terms may be unfamiliar, but there are many YouTube videos to help you learn the process. Of course, you will want to know how long before you can drink it. It can take as little as 10 to 15 days to ferment, but red wine will benefit from being left a little longer, at least a month.
The most popular varieties you can make yourself include apricot, blackberry, cherry, damson and elderberry. However, almost all fruit can be used.
So, if on your bucket list, is a vision of yourself and friends relaxing with a bottle or two of home-made wine, then there’s no time like the present.
