If a visit to Sydney is on your bucket list, then you may as well spoil yourself with a live performance at the Opera House.

This iconic building is instantly recognisable and is home to the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Bangarra Dance Theatre and Opera Australia.

Events are organised year-round, and range from classical music to comedies, circuses and magic shows. The New Year’s Eve fireworks display is televised worldwide.

Finding Your Way Around

It’s easy to get to the Opera House, whether by walking, public transport or taxi. There are seven different venues, so make sure you are in the right place!

The Welcome Centre is on the Lower Concourse and here you can check what’s on, buy tickets or arrange a guided tour. The Box Office is in the Entry Foyer, for buying and picking up tickets.

There are numerous options for eating and drinking, throughout the building.

The theatres can be somewhat chilly, so dress appropriately and arrive in plenty of time, as you won’t be admitted if you are late. Although you can watch the action on screens in the foyer!

What’s On

Each venue has specialist performances throughout the year. There is the Concert Hall for music events, the Joan Sutherland Centre for opera and ballet, and the Studio for more diverse productions.

The Drama Theatre is an intimate space for international plays, and younger audiences will enjoy the storytelling in the Playhouse. Whether you prefer the operatic drama of La Traviata, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, or a poetry workshop, there is something for everyone.

If you want a taste of what to expect, the Sydney Opera House offers live streaming or recordings of past performances. This will undoubtedly make you even more impatient to visit your bucket list destination!
