Looking for something gratifying and worthwhile? Volunteering for an environmental or humanitarian cause is worth considering.
This doesn’t mean that you will be expected to visit a far-flung country in crisis; there are many projects nearer to home that would welcome your time. So, your first task is to decide which type of cause you wish to help.
Volunteering for the Environment
This area covers many topics, such as conservation, ecology, sustainability and wildlife. You may be interested in hands-on activities, including planting trees, clearing rivers, cleaning beaches or simply picking up litter. Or you may prefer an administrative role involved in fundraising.
You could even become a guide at a national park or wildlife trust. If you wish to travel abroad, then there are endless opportunities in marine conservation, surveying wildlife and sustaining the rainforests.
Humanitarian Causes
If you prefer to help people, then you need to find a humanitarian cause that matches your interest and skills. With the cost of living crisis, food banks are becoming increasingly important to communities and would be grateful for any help.
You could also deliver meals to needy families or visit lonely residents in care homes. Fundraising and organising events for any charity is always necessary if you have a talent for getting people together. Perhaps you might enjoy a driving role of some kind, perhaps taking patients to their appointments.
Charity shops are always desperate for volunteers to help sort the donations.
No matter what your skills or time commitment, there is always the opportunity to help society and the planet by volunteering for a worthy cause. This is a simple activity to cross off your bucket list that will give you a great deal of satisfaction and make a difference!
