Who hasn’t at one particular time or another, tried to complete the annoying puzzle known as the Rubik’s Cube?
If you have never succeeded, then this activity may well be on your bucket list. If nothing else, this will be an inexpensive task to cross off, as you simply need to buy the puzzle! If you were a child of the 1970s, you might already own one, but the stickers may be a little worn out by now.
Solving the Puzzle
What exactly is a Rubik’s Cube, and how did it come about? It is a cube-like puzzle which was invented in 1974, by a Hungarian professor, who of course named it after himself. It is now considered the best selling toy in the world. There is actually a World Cube Association, which organises competitions and recognises world records.
The fastest recorded time for solving the puzzle is 3.47 seconds! You may not aspire to beat this, but you simply wish to solve the Rubik’s Cube yourself.
So, is there a method of doing this? And we don’t mean by peeling the stickers off and rearranging them!
Family Challenges
Unfortunately, unless you are a mathematician, the algorithms which describe the solutions are incredibly complex. However, rather than using mathematical equations to solve the Rubik’s Cube, it will be much more satisfying if you work it out yourself.
You could challenge your friends and family, making it a fun activity to pass an evening, perhaps while on holiday. Once you have mastered the classic 3 x 3 x 3 version, you can try the other variations. It may, however, take some time before you are confident enough to try the 17 x 17 x 17 monster cube!
In other words, the best way to beat the Rubix Cube is simply to play, practice and enjoy it! Why not start today?
