When hoping for spectacular scenery in the UK, the delights of the Lake District are indeed at the forefront of many traveller’s minds.

Suffice to say, that makes the region one of the top bucket list destinations. However, to make the experience even more memorable, why not consider exploring the National Park by train? The Ravenglass & Eskdale steam railway is not to be missed and covers seven miles of gorgeous views.

Booking Tickets

As you can imagine, the train is very popular, particularly during the summer months, and booking a ticket in advance is mandatory. To add to the fun, you can pick which carriage you want to travel in! Children and dogs are welcome on board, making it a great day out for all the family.

While waiting to board this iconic train, you can visit the museum, which features lots of interactive exhibits, is ideal for the kids to explore, and is free of charge.

The Route and What to Look Out For

The train sets off from Ravenglass, a lovely coastal village and runs to Dalegarth, taking approximately 40 minutes. Along the way, you will pass through the spectacular countryside with an enticing view of England’s highest mountains in the distance.

Look out for local wildlife, including geese, shelducks and buzzards. On arrival, you can treat yourself in the welcoming Dalegarth cafe. Of course, you can also get off the train at any of the stops and enjoy a scenic walk in the Lake District.

So, travelling on the Ravenglass & Eskdale train is a worthy addition to your bucket list and can easily be accomplished. To make it extra special, you can have a cream tea on the train or even visit at Christmas for the Santa Express!
